Hans Cauberg

Hans holds a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Eindhoven Technical University. He joined Shell and worked initially on many technical projects relating to the exploration and production of oil and gas.

Subsequently Hans started his IP career as a patent attorney in the IP division of Shell.
He gained broad experience in patent matters, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, enforcing patent rights, conducting infringement studies, prosecuting patent oppositions, and managing patent portfolios. In this regard he represented Shell before the EPO in opposition and appeal proceedings on numerous occasions. Also, he was extensively involved in licensing negotiations and mediation regarding patent disputes. His portfolio included a wide range of technologies with a focus on exploration and production of oil and gas. One of his projects involved setting up and managing a patent portfolio relating to a novel wellbore technology, and advising Shell’s exploration and production business during licensing negotiations on this technology.

During his career as IP professional he also was a tutor in the CEIPI training course for the European qualifying examination for patent attorneys.
